One of the things that appealed to us about our house was the potential that the backyard had. It had a lot of space, it just wasn’t utilized properly. Aside from the deck and patio it had a little patch of lawn, but most of it was sloped and pretty much overgrown with weeds. That’s what got us hooked, the possibilities.
The backyard needed A LOT of work… it still does need lots of work. The first thing we needed was a path to make the bottom of the hill accessible. As it was, the slope and grading made it pretty hard to get to and basically unusable. The task of transforming our yard into usable spaces was one that was beyond our knowledge and capability, so we hired professionals – Four Dimensions Landscape Company. They did the hard work of clearing out all of the unwanted plants (mostly fennel), and a ton of broken concrete and various garbage tossed in the back from previous remodels by the original homeowners.
They were able to create two levels with a path that winds between them.
Once the hard work of defining the spaces was done we were able to transform the spaces as we saw fit, we used the lawn for picnics, movie nights, and family gatherings.
The lower area became a wild crazy adventure playground, with treehouses, clubhouses, slides, and even a zipline!
