I haven’t been shooting much lately. Mostly because of the physical burden but also I’m trying to see what else is out there for me.
I’ve been interested in graphic design but never really persued it because I didn’t feel like I could draw well enough. All the people I know who are in the graphic design field are excellent at drawing and sketching freehand, whereas I can’t draw a straight line or a circle without some sort of guide. But I decided not to let my fear and insecurity hold me back from trying so I gave it a shot and enrolled in some classes at the local community college.
So far I am really enjoying it and learning alot. I’m able to use the programs to do what I’m not capable of doing by hand. It’s also helping me breathe life into some old photographs and projects that I never really got around to finishing.
I have a bunch of skyline photos that I’ve taken over the years and didn’t really know what to do with them. So for one of my assignments I used one of my shots to create this:

I didn’t have enough time to add all the details I wanted and clean it up a bit, but this was one of my first assignments. And since I’ve learned a lot of new tools and techniques during my class, I can work on getting it closer to what I want it to look like.
Another work in progress is my book. I want to create a graphic novel style story of my heart transplant journey. This way I can combine the photos I took with some of my other writing to help paint the picture.
